FINDING PURPOSE
Finding reward in helping others

🗽I’m back in New York after a long time being away
It’s good to be back, although I was hoping I would be able to skip Winter
It’s 40 degrees, so here we are
One of the joys for me in a place like New York is favorites
My favorite coffee shops
My favorite restaurants
My favorite walks
Favorite music spots
I love discovering new places as I travel
But the familiar is also very nice
I stopped into a coffee place in my neighborhood
I hadn’t been there in 6 months
The barista, smiling, remembered my order when she saw me
The guy at the register remembered my name
This isn’t even a regular spot for me, but a nice familiar place
New York City gets a bad rap for being impersonal, competitive, rude
But I’ve found the opposite
When people are in their element, they are friendly, helpful, and compassionate
It’s just that getting from point A to point B is stressful, so people look frazzled on the streets
But everyone wants human connection
Anyways, since I wrapped up my corporate career and have been traveling, it’s been inspiring
Now, being back in my familiar places and everyone around me doing their thing
I realize how important Purpose is to the human mind
Work gives us purpose
Family gives us purpose
Causes give us purpose
Love gives us purpose
When you don’t feel purpose, you won’t feel valued
When you do feel it, you can accomplish anything
This is especially true in work
Many of my friends and peers are going through transitions
Seeking new jobs or feeling stuck in their current company
They’re ready to do more, to dedicate their passion and skills to something new
They are all incredibly talented people with huge accomplishments
They are seeking places to contribute that will value their contribution
Any company would be lucky to have them on their team
My advice 👇
HELP THEM
I’ve found that nothing gives you a greater sense of purpose
Than helping others and expecting nothing in return
When other people that you have helped on their journey connect with their purpose and thrive
That is its own reward
Helping others will help you deepen your purpose
If you are someone looking for your next career move
If I can help you in any way, let me know
I’m here for you
The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why
CHAD’S ROUND-UP
📚 What I read: Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson- writer Isaacson is well-known for his biographies on Steve Jobs, Einstein, and Leonardo da Vinci. This piece on Musk goes deep into why the entrepreneur is motivated to tackle such big things and also why he is both loved and hated. I’ve always been fascinated by how multi-tasking leaders accomplish big things, and this book did not disappoint. Whatever you think of Musk, this book is a very good account of our generation’s Thomas Edison.
🎞️ What I watched: First Time Founders with Bobbi Brown- How does someone maintain relevance over several decades in an image-oriented and competitive creative industry? In this interview, makeup and beauty legend Bobbi Brown shares the secrets behind her success and her approach to her latest venture Jones Road Beauty. She’s a true founder, operating on instinct and staying close with the details of her business.
🕵🏻♂️ An interesting discovery: Fly Pieter- Ever since the Apple II and TRS 80 computers, an entertaining distraction has been the flight simulator game. Startup guru and global nomad Pieter Levels created this fun version, completely coded by AI. Give it a shot, it’s free and a lovely break from you work.
That’s all for today
I’m rooting for you!
